Davar4 can export any module to various data formats with a number of options.
If you need to print text from a module, it s necessary to export part (or all) of the module as a text format (TXT or RTF) file and use a text editor to print it. Below is a picture of an Export dialog and description of all the export options.
Quick export function (for books only)
In some cases, you may need to export some part of text of the book. For example you are in KJV+ translation at position Genesis 2:1 and want to export Gen 2:1-5 to clipboard and then paste to MS Word. In this case you can use Quick export: press right mouse button on the text of book to see popup menu, select command Copy verses to clipboard which will display next level of popup menu with following commands (as example):
Here you can select to copy:
When select verses, your clipboard is filled by verses in actual format (RTF of TXT) and style (1-7).
Full export function (for all modules)
Use this dialog for export with full control of all possible parameters:
Type of export: The first step is the selection of export type according to the module. Only the modules that are opened are enabled. For dictionary export, you can check opposite direction, if necessary.
File and range of export: This is the second step after selecting the type of module to export. In the pulldown menu, select specific module to export. In the picture, KJV+ module was selected. Below the pulldown menu, there are buttons for the range of the export: All, Range... and Verses from list.
All : this is the default, selection of all modules for export
Range... : this option is available only for book modules. When the button is pressed, the range dialog is displayed. It is the same dialog as in Search reference range and you can specify the range of the export. See details in Search reference range part.
Verses from list : This button is enabled only in the case when the actual verse list (main or secondary) contains some verses. In this case, all verses from the actual verse list will be exported. Note: Visibility of the verse list window does not affect this function.
Format of exported data: In this part, you can select the data format for export. Some types can be disabled according to the selected module. You can select from:
Text (UTF-8): Plain text will be exported, without formatting. Text is exported in Unicode, in UTF-8 encoding. This eliminates problems with code pages for different languages (as was presented in Davar3). Exported text can be opened in all modern editors. As an option, you can select that Byte Order Mark (BOM) will be presented in file - some text editors may need it. The following free programs are recommended to work with plain text files: Notepad++ and PSPad. BabelPad is a great and free Unicode editor, which can perform many text conversions, display and print each Unicode language in the selected font. Good for handling of R2L texts.
Rich Text (RTF) : This option is recommended to use for export of text that include formatting (bold, italic, colors, fonts...). The Rich Text Format is the standard file format for text-based documents in applications developed for Microsoft Windows. Most of the "Office" word processors can open and edit this format.
NOTE: There are some differences between various versions of MS Word, when opening the same RTF file containing latin, greek and hebrew text that are mixed. Some can handle it better. Good results were obtained in this cases also with Wordpad and especially with Libre Office suite.
SQL Database Text (SQLite3) : Some modules (lexicons, dictionaries, writings and notes) in Davar4 are stored as SQLite3 binary file. Use of SQLite3 is an effective way for work with records (add, delete, sort) using SQL language. When you select this format of exported data, the module is exported as series of SQL commands in text form. Practically every worldwide SQL database program can use this export and build its own database file. This option is a good choice if you want to use the module data in a database.
Source for MDK (TXT, UTF-8) : Each module can be exported as text format (UTF-8 encoding) which can be used as the source for Module Development Kit (MDK) to recompile the module back. Also, this format is good for transferring text to other formats, like HTML. The source for MDK is plain text format where all the extra information (references, Strong#, notes, ...) are inserted by tags. If you want to rebuild a module using exported data and the MDK tools, export the module in this format - in this case, check the option Create also info.txt file.
Exported tags: Here you can select which tags are exported. Only some combinations are allowed according to the selected format of the exported data.
All: All tags will be exported. For text format, Mark tags option is allowed. In this case, tags are marked by text marks like #, [, ], etc.
According to window: Tags are exported according to the visibility selected for the actual window with the module.
None: No tags are exported and all are stripped. Remember, some tags, like unused word (typed by italic), also will be stripped.
Full path to exported filename: If you export to file, type the full path where the export will be written. Remember, you need to have rights to write to this path, otherwise the export will fail. Use button ... to select the path using Save as... dialog. This part of dialog is disabled, if you export data to the clipboard.
Export to clipboard: Instead of export to file, you can store all export in the clipboard and then paste all the data to a text editor. In some cases (export of complete Bible), there is a lot of text in the cliboard (more than 1000 pages, about 40 MB of RTF). While the option to copy to clipboard is fast, the paste option from the clipboard to the text editor can take a long time.
Styles of book export (1-7): You can choose from 7 styles of book export. Style 3 (default) is the same as the one displayed in the window. If you want to use short reference labels in export, check the option Short references.
Press the OK button to start the export process and the Close button to close the export window.
